July 18-19, 2008!
(Visit the official Montreux Jazz Festival web site at www.montreuxjazz.com.)

The Columbia Jazz Band has been selected to play at the internationally renown Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, this summer 2008!  The band is performing two free concerts, July 18th and 19th, at the Parc Vernex Stage.

For those who are visiting the Columbia Jazz Band web site for the first time, the 28-member band is a non-profit big band based near Columbia, Maryland. Members of the all-volunteer band range in age from 25 to 84, representing all walks of life in the community. The band plays a variety of big band jazz, from classic swing to more contemporary big band jazz. The band has been entertaining audiences in the greater Baltimore/Washington area since the 1980's, and more than half of the band has been playing together for more than 10 years!  Although the CJB plays at the occasional private event, most of the performances are free and open to the public. The CJB has previously performed in Europe in 1996, concentrating in eight cities in the Netherlands. In 2008, the band will be touring Eastern Europe for 8 days after departing Montreux. A highlight of the 2008 European tour schedule is a performance on opening night at the music festival in Bled, Slovenia, July 25th.

For further information about the band, please email (mauricefeldman@comcast.net).
